Communication Assistive Technology

What is the CAT Team?

The Communication and Assistive Technology (CAT) Team is a multidisciplinary team made up of a student's teacher/s, and any combination of educational support personnel working with a student, including, but not limited to, the OTR, PT, SLP, Teacher of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, Teacher of Blind/Low Vision students, and/or Adapted PE teacher.

The Goal of the Communication Assistive Technology (CAT) team is to provide students with disabilities access to appropriate assistive technology and to provide for participation in social and educational environments.

What does the CAT Team do?

The CAT team provides assessments and/or recommendations in the areas of communication and assistive technology. Students can be referred for an assessment when there are questions about accessing communication and/or accessing their education through assistive technology. Through assessment and IEP recommendation, EACS is able to provide a variety of strategies and/or assistive technology. These strategies and/or assistive technology can be used by students to increase their ability to access their education.
