Delay and Closing Decisions

East Allen County Schools covers 344 square miles.  Sometimes it is foggy in one part of our District but another part is perfectly clear.  We want to assure all of you that we don’t make these decisions lightly.  We worry about our walkers, car riders, high school drivers, bus riders and staff.  We greatly appreciate your support as we navigate through these weather conditions.

Here is the weather decision flowchart as a reminder of how East Allen County Schools makes our decisions.

Wind chill is also a concern in the winter months.  East Allen County Schools (EACS) uses the hourly temperature and wind chill  predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service. Delay or closing decisions are considered when frostbite occurs in thirty (30) or less minutes. When these conditions are predicted to occur at 7:00 a.m., the District will strongly consider a delay for the start of school. If the conditions continue to occur at 9:00 a.m., the District will strongly consider closing schools. (Please refer to the Wind Chill Chart below.)
